Or, a return to previously held values of decency (in our food).

With summer on the horizon, keeping that (food) schedule can prove tricky. So now it’s time to get back to brass tacks, the core, the essentials, the hard facts, the nitty gritty, and the nuts and bolts of all things food recovery.

If you talk about getting back to basics, you are suggesting that people have become too concerned with complicated details or new theories, and that they should concentrate on simple, important ideas or activities. Sounds easy, right? Well, it can be AND it might not be. Sometimes, adding chaos ad nauseam to the inner workings of your head can actually help a food addiction persist because it keeps us IN THE CHAOS. Sometimes, simplicity is the way to go and this is what that looks like:

  1. Start writing down your food. Again. Do it every day regardless of what’s gone down between the pen and the paper. It needs to include all BLT’s (bites, licks, tastes) and anything that might make you feel less than perfect. I mean, what is perfect anyway?
  2. Plan your meals. Don’t be a dumb-dumb and get into that clean mind with thoughts like, “I can wing it.” Trust us, YOU CAN’T. Know where every next meal is coming from at the very least – that way, the anxiety that starts percolating in the fringes of our minds around food and ‘when, what, how will I’ will dissipate. There’s no need for so much drama in our day-to-day – especially when it’s about the food!
  3. Eat every 3-4 hours. And if you are one of those that keeps telling themselves ‘The day just got away from me’ or ‘I looked up and it was 5 o’clock,’ we are calling BULLSHIT. I mean, aren’t you the same ones who can’t stop thinking about the food because you don’t plan your meals or obsess over what you’ve eaten because you can’t really remember because you didn’t write it down? It can be as simple as SETTING AN ALARM to remind us to STOP. BREATHE. EAT. Feed your body, feed your mind.

And we want you all to do those THREE things with a beginner’s mind. You don’t got this, you’ve never tried this, and you’re so excited to start!
