Summertime is the perfect time to care for yourself.

It’s Britta here and I am guest blogging for the lovely and talented Buzz Master, Molly, today! Given that our favorite Beacon Buddy is in analog mode and enjoying a getaway in the name of self-care, I thought I would write a little something in honor of that for all of you. Taking a break from work, caring for the kids while they’re off on summer break, or planning family vacations to prioritize YOURSELF is a crucial act of self-care.

Self-care can be as simple as remembering to put on sunscreen when you leave the house on these bright and long summer days to taking a weekend-long yoga retreat. Emphasizing your importance and making a commitment to yourself is something that many of us find difficult to do so here is our list to help get you on your way!

Take a lesson from Molly and take a break from technology. Go analog! Even if it’s a small change like reading a book on your commute home instead of staring at Facebook or Instagram, it can make a huge impact in slowing things down from the constant motion of the world around you.

Get out there and start celebrating your love of play by connecting with your inner child! Whether you used to love to ride bikes or swim or take walks through the park, make time to engage in activities that make your heart feel young.

Tick-tock! While it might feel like the LAST thing you want to do on your summer break, waking up even 30 minutes earlier than your usual time can really re-energize your day. And, for those of you who have been promising to make time for meditation, doing this can allow that practice to come to fruition.

Finally, take a break! It doesn’t really matter if you leave town or plan a staycation because where you go isn’t nearly as important as showing yourself some hard-earned love. If staying at home fits the bill, then take advantage of all your city has to offer this summer! Make a list of all the things you’ve wanted to do and start checking them off. This one is my favorite and I committed every summer to a staycation while living in New Orleans. I became a tourist in my own city and I’ve never had more fun!

Since Molly is away this week, there will not be an afterparty on Facebook tonight but next week she will be coming back with lots of things to catch up on, so mark your calendars for next Sunday!

And remember – your Beacon team is here! When someone takes some time away, we all fill in to support. So, if you are having a hard time stepping onto your self-care path, reach out to one of your Beacon team to get some ideas about where to start. We’ve got you covered!
