Valentine Week GrATTITUDE
Happy Sunday and Happy Almost Valentine’s Day!
Let’s talk about our attitude for gratitude. Lots of V-Day haters out there – hating on the Hallmark holiday of it all, hating on the loneliness of it all, hating on all the chocolate. For years, I was somewhere between a V-Day hater and avoider. And I made it known. And sometimes I would even eat AT Valentines day to show the world what a Valentine’s Day protest looked like!
And then I realized two things: I was only hurting myself, AND I actually love Valentines Day. Ain’t that a kick in the head.
You read that right: I LOVE Valentine’s Day. I love it in it’s purest form. And in my highest and best self – in my wisest mind, I love to love and I love love.
For those of you asking yourselves, “What does loving Valentine’s Day have to do with finding you solutions to your food and weight issues?” My answer is comprehensive: Almost everything. Focus on hate and lack, the hate and lack gets bigger. Focus on love and gratitude, love and gratitude gets bigger.
So much of our recovery from our food and weight issues has to do with perspective shift. Wayne Dyer said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Do a little temperature check – are you spending V-day not only not in love, but poo pooing love? Are you planning a protest that is going to dim your light? Are you open to doing something different?
As it turns out, Valentine’s Day is a great day to be of service and show #gratitude to the people you love! Can you shoot out a few bitmoji texts on Wednesday to your tribe expressing appreciation? Can you call someone who struggles with love or loss and see how they are feeling? Or can you make a commitment to love yourself a little – a massage, a new lipstick, or a quiet and loving night in? You’ll be surprised how the ACT of love can change how you FEEL. I write snail-mail V-Day cards to my most favorite people, and when I’m writing them, the feeling of love and appreciation makes my heart warm in a way that heart-shaped donuts and pink m&ms simply cannot.
With all the chaos going on around us, love is really what we need right now. Let’s get this celebration headed back in the right direction toward love and healing versus away from it.
